'For great courage and devotion to duty at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on the 5th April, 1918. He was employed as Stretcher-bearer and exhibited great personal courage and endurance. He performed his duties in a splendid manner, working throughout the day, and was constantly under heavy shell and machine gun fire.'
