Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When employed as a runner to his Battery at TOLIO (east of YPRES) on the night of 23rd October, 1917, this gunner successfully carried important despatches for his Battery notwithstanding the intense shell fire through which he had to pass, and during which he was twice blown up by heavy shells. His work throughout has been excellent.'
