Meritorious Service Medal 'This N.C.O. has been in charge of the office of the D.A.P.M., 2nd Australian Division for the past twelve months, and has shown great efficiency in his work. His capability to cope with the clerical work has been of great assistance to the D.A.P.M. in that it has given him plenty of time to give attention to outside matters - investigations, etc. During the PASSCHENDALE offensive this N.C.O. was on duty at BIRR CROSS ROADS on the MENIN ROAD from 18th September, 1917, to 25th September, 1917, and from 2nd October, 1917, to 10th October, 1917. During both periods this spot was under very heavy shell fire, and his ability to control the traffic, which at all times was heavy on the MENIN ROAD, and his general good work at that time, materially assisted in the transport of munitions and rations to the forward area and the passage of wounded men to the rear. Corporal BARRIE afterwards came into this office for duty, and in a short time took charge, which position he has retained since with conspicuous skill and devotion to duty.'
