Wounded in action (bullet wound, left eye), 19 September 1915; evacuated to No 2 Australian General Hospital, Egypt; rejoined unit from hospital, 12 January 1916. Transferred to 11th Light Horse, 22 February 1916.

Appointed Lance Corporal, 14 March 1917; Temporary Sergeant, 5 July 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Morvada', 20 July 1919; disembarked Sydney, 28 August 1919; discharged, 29 October 1919.
