Military Medal

'This man has acted as a runner during all operations throughout 1918. At HANGARD during the operations of April 1918, he was a Company runner and carried messages to and from the front line under heavy enemy fire. The lines were down and the information he carried was of vital importance. On these occasions he displayed utter disregard for personal safety. During the operations from 8th August 1918 onwards, East of AMIENS, as a Battalion runner he displayed marked devotion to duty, especially at MONT ST. QUENTIN on 31st August 1918, when he carried messages over exposed country to detached companies under extremely heavy shell and machine gun fire. His work has invariably been between Battalion Headquarters and the front line. No matter how intense the enemy barrage Private IKIN has always delivered his despatches in minimum time.'
