Military Medal

'This N.C.O. is brought to notice for his gallant conduct during the operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. During the attack he displayed great courage and excellent powers of leadership. On reaching the Red Line, he at once went forward with his Lewis gun, very close under our own barrage, and took up a position to cover his Company during the period of consolidation. Having his own gun team in position, he then, despite the heavy fire being maintained by the enemy at the time, voluntarily assisted in establishing positions for lll the other Lewis guns of the Company. During the whole operation, his great gallantry and fearlessness were an inspiring example to all ranks. He is strongly recommended for distinction.'
