'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He moved forward with the advance in command of carrying parties, and established dumps on the first objective under heavy fire, and worked untiringly under very difficult conditions. When ammunition ran short during a counter attack he led his parties through a heavy barrage with further supplies to the front line.'
