Distinguished Conduct Medal 'On the 29 September, 1918, he was in charge of men working on forward roads between Ronssoy and Bony, following immediately behind the infantry advance on Zero day. On coming under heavy fire, he quickly extricated his men from a very difficult and trying situation, getting them spread out along the road so that the work was accomplished as expeditiously as possible. Throughout the whole operations he showed great coolness and leadership.'
