War service: Western Front Embarked Brisbane on HMAT 'Marathon', 27 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, 9 January 1917, and marched into 12th Training Bn, Codford. Found guilty at Codford, 7 February 1917, of (1) failing to appear at place of rendezvous appointed by commanding officer, and (2) overstaying leave, 12.00am, 4 February, to 9.00 pm, 6 February 1917: awarded 14 days Field Punishment No 2; forfeited total of 16 days' pay. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 3 May 1917; marched into 4th Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 4 May 1917; moved into the field, 7 May 1917; taken on strength of 47th Bn, 8 May 1917. Killed in action, Belgium, 9 August 1917. Buried at Derry House of Graves Cemetery No 2, situated three-quarters of a mile North of Messines. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal |
