War service: Egypt, Western Front Taken on strength, 50th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 29 February 1916. Appointed Temporary Lance corporal, 1 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 5 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 12 June 1916. Reverted to Private, 16 July 1916. Wounded in action, 4 September 1916 (gun shot wound, right wrist), and admitted same day to 8th General Hospital, Rouen; trasferred to England, 5 Sptember 1916, and admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, Portsmouth, 7 Sptember 1916 (gun shot wound, right rist and leg: severee). Marched into No 1 Command Depot, Perhams Downs from furlough, 24 January 1917 (furlough dates not recorded). Attached to Permanent Staff of No 1 Command Depot from 50th Bn, 11 June 1917. Found guilty, Perham Downs, ofbeing absent without leave from noon, 7 October, until 9 pm, 9 October 1917: reprimanded, and forfeited 3 days' pay. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Ascanius', 9 February 1919; disembarked Adelaide, 21 March 1919; discharged (medically unfit), Adelaide, 20 May 1919.
