Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Argyllshire', 30 September 1915.

Embarked Alexandria and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 25 March 1916.

Found guilty in the field, 17 April 1916, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in quitting the ranks without permission: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2. Found guilty in the field, 20 May 1916, of conduct to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in failing to carry out an order, 30 April 1916: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Wounded in action, 30 July 1916 (gun shot wound, scrotum); admitted to No 8 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 31 July 1916. Embarked Boulogne on HS 'Jan Breydel' and proceeded to England, 1 August 1916; admitted to 2nd Northern General Hospital, Beckett's Park, 2 August 1916; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 2 March 1917. Admitted to Sidney Hall Hospital, 15 March 1917; discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 12 April 1917; moved out from depot, 20 May 1917.

Embarked Devonport on HT 'Ayrshire' and commenced return to Australia, 23 May 1917; disembarked Sydney, 19 July 1917. Discharged on account of being medically unfit for continued service, Sydney, 18 September 1917 (gun shot wound, scrotum and left thigh).
