'This man, acting as a Runner and Guide, often through very heavy barrages of artillery and other fire, and always setting a very high example of coolness and courage, has succeeded in carrying out his duties to the entire satisfaction of all concerned. During the attack near LE VERGUIER of 18th September 1918 he acted as runner from Battery Headquarters to the Gun Positions, and in the advance continually carried messages and maintained communication under difficult and most trying circumstances, affording great assistance. He showed great devotion to duty and was cheerful and heartening in his execution of same.'
