'During the operations in the vicinity of PERONNE on 1st and 2nd September, 1918, this N.C.O. rendered invaluable assistance by manipulating his guns under fire with such coolness and daring that he was enabled to inflict heavy casualties on the enemy at a critical stage of the advance. His consistent courage and devotion to duty inspired the men under him throughout the operation.'
