Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative near Assevillers, 28 August, 1918. When a nest of machine guns was encountered this man worked round and effected a complete surprise by bombing them from the rear. By his daring action eighteen prisoners and two machine guns were taken without any casualties to his company.'
