War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 14 August 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 30 October 1916, and marched into No 3 Camp, Parkhouse. Proceeded overseas to France, 31 December 1916; taken on strength, 5th Pioneer Bn, in the field, 7 February 1917. Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance,27 February 1917, and transferred same day to 5th Divisional Rest Station (influenza); to 45th Casualty Clearing Station, 28 February 1917; to Ambulance Train, 2 March 1917, and admitted to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples; to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 7 March 1917; to Base Depot, 17 March 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 3 April 1917. Wounded in action, 29 September 1918 (multiple gun shot wounds, back and left arm: severe), and admitted to 118th Field Ambulance; transferred to 53rd Casualty Clearing Station, 30 September 1918 and then, same day, to Ambulance Train No 42, and admitted to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 2 October 1918. Transferred to England, 3 October 1918, and admitted to Reading War Hospital, 5 October 1918; transferred to No 3 Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 4 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 5 December 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 19 December 1918.
