Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On an officer being dangerously wounded by rifle fire on an isolated ridge, he carried him back across the fire-swept area for forty yards under very heavy fire and under most difficult circumstances. This prompt and gallant action undoubvtedly saved the officer's life, as there was every probability of his bleeding to death if not attended to at once.'
