Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty under very heavy shell fire on the YPRES MENIN Road on 25th September, 1917. During very heavy shell fire he showed utmost disregard of danger and was instrumental in forwarding munitions and supplies to the front with expedition. He was severely wounded by shell fire on 25th September, 1917, in the execution of his duty.'

Wounded in action, 25 September 1917 (gun shot wound, face), and admitted to 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 16th General Hospital, Le Treport, 26 September 1917; to No 3 Convalescent Depot, 15 October 1917; to 4th Australian Division Base Depot, 1 November 1917; to 40th Stationary Hospital, Harfleur, 3 November 1917 (old facial wound).
