War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 25 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917; marched in to Details Camp, Fovant, 30 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 30 July 1917; taken on strength, 33rd Bn, in the field, 20 August 1917. Charged with being absent without leave: case dismissed, 18 March 1918 - no witnesses available. On leave to England, 20 September 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 6 October 1918. Admitted to 9th Australian Field Ambulance, 22 November 1918; discharged to unit, and rejoined Bn, 28 November 1918. Detached to Australian Graves Detachment, 9 April 1919. Appointed Lance Corporal, 10 April 1919. On leave to United Kingdom, 26 June 1919. Marched out to England for return to Australia, and detached to 33rd Bn, 17 August 1919.
