Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous bravery on the night of the 3rd-4th May, 1915, during the operations near Gaba Tepe (Dardanelles). Durinmg an attack by the enemy he frequently picked up and threw back their own hand grenades, exhibiting the greatest coolness and courage at a critical time. Later on he assisted in carrying food and water to the firing line under a very heavy and continuous shell and machine gun fire.'
