War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 5 April 1915. Reported wounded and missing, 8-12 May 1915. Court of Enquiry, 3 November 1916, declared fate to be 'Killed in Action, 8-12 May 1915'. Statement, Red Cross File No 1430102B, 799 Pte A.J. HINEY, C Company, 5th Bn, 15 November 1915: 'The Janssens were with me in the boat when we were landing at Anzac on the 25th April. C. Janssen was hit with shrapnel and killed just as was landing on the beach and I saw him dead. E.V. was killed later the same day in the advance on the right; he is down in the Batt list as killed and his name has also appeared in Australia as killed. C. Janssen was buried at sea.' Statement, Red Cross File No 1430103C, Lt A.G. ADAMS, 5th Bn, 9 November 1915: 'Informant Janssen was commonly reported in Co. of which informant is an officer, to be killed at Cape Helles about 8th May and remembers that Lt. J.A.K.
