Military Medal 'This man is a runner and on the morning of the 11th April 1917 after the attack on the HINDENBURG Line in front of REINCOURT had succeeded, he volunteered to bring a dispatch from the lines to Battalion Headquarters, across "No Man's Land" which was heavily barraged with Artillery and constantly swept with Machine Gun fire. When he volunteered he knew he had very little chance of getting through as so many others who had made the attempt had been shot down. He also did excellent work in the attack and subsequently in the trenches after the objectives had been secured. He is recommended for distinction.'
