Transferred to 5th Division Artillery, Tel el Kebir, 15 March 1916, and posted to 50th Battery, 13th Field Artillery Brigade. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 16 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 23 June 1916. Found guilty, 12 March 1917, of neglect of duty in that he was not sufficiently attentive when on telephone duty: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No 2.
