'In the attack on the morning of the 19th instant near MORLANCOURT, his platoon Commander being killed at the first objective he took charge, filled up a dangerous gap and connected up with the Brigade on our left. Throughout the operations he displayed courage and leadership of a high order and his work in joining up with the Brigade on our left was of the greatest value. It was probably the most critical part of our line.'
