'During the period 23rd September 1917 to 24th February 1918, both at ordinary times and under shell fire this soldier has done most brilliant work. His knowledge of his duties has rendered him of the greatest value to the surgeons of his Unit; his self sacrifice and devotion to his duty have stimulated and encouraged his comrades, while his sympathetic and capable attention and cheerful demeanour have done much to alleviate, better the condition, and cheer the spirits of the wounded. Private JOHNSSON has been with 13th Australian Field Ambulance, since its formation, as a surgical dresser. In this capacity he has been present in every action in which the 4th Australian Division has taken part.'
