War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Sydney, 19 December 1917; disembarked Suez, 16 January 1918. Embarked Port Said, 24 January 1918; disembarked Taranto, Italy, 2 February 1918. Entrained Taranto, 5 February 1918; detrained Cherbourg, 12 February 1918. Embarked for England, 12 February 1918; disembarked Southampton, 13 February 1918, and marched same day into 1st Training Bn, Sutton Veny. Proceeded overseas to France, 13 May 1918; marched into New Zealand Infantry Base Depot, Etaples, 14 May 1918. Taken on strength, 26th Bn, 12 June 1918. Found guilty by Field General Court Martial, 18 October 1918, of while of Active Service desertion on or about 0300 21/9/19 till about 099 21/9/18: awarded 3 years' penal servitude, and forfeited a total of 1115 days' pay. Transferred to No 11 Military Prison, 19 December 1918. Admitted to 30th General Hospital, Calais, 16 January 1919 (suspected chronic interstional nephritis; dangerously ill); died same day.
