War Service: On 28 October1916 he was charged with being Absent without Leave from Lark Hill from 20 October till 6:30 am on 25 October. He forfeited five days pay.

Proceeded overseas to France 15 November 1916. On 2 June 1917, he was charged with being absent without leave while on active service, and awarded two days Field Punishment No. 2. On 6 July he was sent to hospital sick, and rejoined the 43rd Battalion on 14 July.

He was wounded in action (gun shot wound to the hand) on 2 August 1917. On 24 November 1917, he was charged with being out of bounds at 8:30 am, and with stating a falsehood to a warrant officer, and forfeited 7 days pay.

He went to England on leave from 2 February 1918, and rejoined the 43rd Battalionon 23 February 1918 to 23 February 1918. He was charged with being absent without leave from 7:30 am on 15 February to 8 am 18 February 1918. Forfeited 6 days pay. He was absent without leave from 6 pm on 24 August 1918 to 9:30 pm 30 August 1918, and forfeited 35 days pay. Absent without leave 2:30 am 26 December 1918 to 13:00, 27 December 1918. Forfeits 8 days pay.
