Croix de Guerre (France)

'For conspicuous and most devoted service since his arrival in France, June 1916, and particularly for his gallant and valuable work during the operations at Villers-Bretonneux from 4th May to 3rd June 1918. The courage, fine example and untiring zeal of this N.C.O. while in charge of the Battery Staff and Communications, often under heavy fire and most adverse conditions, were most valuable to his Battery and Brigade throughout the above critical and strenuous period.'
