Military Medal 'During operations on the morning of 11th August 1918 against RAINECOURT, East of AMIENS, this runner rendered distinguished service and showed great courage and bravery throughout the attack. During the heaviest fighting he was engaged continuously in message carrying between battalion headquarters and the attacking troops, passing through the enemy artillery barrage and facing intense machine gun and rifle fire with utter disregard to his personal safety. His determination and gallantry under extremely trying conditions was responsible for the prompt receipt of valuable information regarding the progress of operations.'
