War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force (Gallipoli Campaign), 5 April 1915. Admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance, 19 June 1915; rejoined Bn, 23 June 1915. Admitted to HS 'Gascon', 26 June 1915; transferred to 21st General Hospital, Alexandria, 30 June 1915 (typhoid) Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Ascanius', 7 September 1915; disembarked Melbourne, 4 October 1915; discharged (medically unfit), Sydney, 31 January 1916. Medical Board, Continuation Form, 24 January 1916, stated: 'He gives a history of rheumatic fever three years ago, and he still has a systolic murmur most marked in pulmonary areas. Presumably this murmur was not present when he enlisted, and was therefore due to conditions of active service. It recommends a pension and discharge.'
