Transferred to, and taken on strength of, 52nd Bn, 1 March 1916.

Found guilty, 20 March 1916, of being absent without leave, 18-19 March 1916: forfeited 4 days' pay; total forfeiture: 6 days' pay.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 5 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 12 June 1916.

Attached to 4th Division Headquarters for duty, 5 August 1916 (Traffic Control); rejoined 52nd Bn, 26 September 1916.

Accidentally wounded while working at incinerator, cartridge exploded: soldier not to blame), 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, both thighs), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance; transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 5 October 1917; to No 6 Convalescent Depot, 9 October 1917; discharged to Base Depot, 8 December 1917.

Transferred to England, 8 December 1917; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 9 December 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Balmoral Castle', 1 February 1918, for discharged (overage, debility); disembarked, 23 March 1918; discharged (medically unfit: overage), 23 August 1918.
