War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 31 October 1916; disembarked England. Proceeded overseas to France 20 March 1917. On leave to England, 7 March 1918; rejoined unit in France, 1 July 1918. Wounded in action (gassed), 23 July 1918; transferred to 6th Field Ambulance and thence to 3rd General Hospital. Transferred to England, 9 August 1918, and admitted to hospital. Returned to France, 12 November 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Kashmir', 9 March 1919; disembarked, 23 April 1919; discharged (medically unfit), 8 September 1920.
