Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For great gallantry near Amman, on 25 September, 1918. When a party of nine men and an officer had advanced to within 80 yards of the enemy position, the enemy hoisted the white flag. The party rose to their feet, but another burst of fire mortally wounded the officer and the remainder of the party, with the exception of Sergeant Kelly and one man. He, with two men, one of whom was wounded continued to advance, heedless of all danger, and captured thirty three of the enemy.'
