Meritorious Service Medal 'This N.C.O. has a record of consistent good work with this Field Ambulance from 22nd September 1917 to 24th February 1918. His work has been characterised by the utmost devotion to duty, extreme efficiency, and great personal courage. During the day and night 21st/22nd October, 1917, the Advanced Dressing Station at the Railway Station, YPRES, was severely shelled at frequent intervals, causing numerous casualties and necessitating a temporary withdrawal. Staff Sergeant KEMP was the senior N.C.O. at the Dressing Station, and regardless of personal danger he superintended the removal of stores under his charge to a safer place. He further kept up the supply of Dressings, thereby enabling work to be resumed at the earliest opportunity, so materially assisting the rapid evacuation of the wounded during a critical period.'
