Tried by Field General Court Martial, 18 January 1916, on charges of (1) striking his superior officer in the execution of his duty, in that he struck Corporal Forster in the face; (2) resisting escort when concerned in an affray, in that he resisted arrest by Corporal Forester; found guilty on both charges: awarded 90 days' detention; sentence commuted to Field Punishment No 2, 11 February 1916.

Admitted to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 9 February 1916 (cardiac); transferred to No 1 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 17 February 1916.

Marched out of 7th Training Bn, Zeitoun, 1 March 1916, and taken on strength of 12th Bn, Tel el Kebir, the same day.

Discharged from No 1 Auxiliary Hospital, 10 April 1916.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 11 April 1916; disembarked, 14 May 1916; discharged Brisbane (medically unfit: cardiac disability), 5 June 1916.
