'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. At LAMIRE FARM, south of PERONNE, on the nights of August 30th and 31st., this senior N.C.O. took charge of a convoy of 16 G.S. Wagons and 3 pontoon wagons. he successfully led these wagons along a road 20 yards in rear of front POSTS, and delivered important bridging material at appointed dumps. The whole of this work was under machine gun and shell fire, and by his skill in controlling the movements of these wagons and horses, he enabled extremely important bridging work to be carried out. On each night, up to the 5th/6th September, he again conveyed wagons to the neighbourhood of the front line, and has acted throughout with great courage and devotion to duty.'
