War service: Egypt, Western Front Taken on strength, 60th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 26 February 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported Missing, 19 July 1916. Now, 5 August 1916, reported 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'. Note, Red Cross File No 1500508: 'No trace Germany. Cert. by Capt. Mills. 10.10.19.' Statement, 1965 Corporal W.E. OLLIS, C Company, 60th Bn (patient, No 5 British Red Cross Hospital, Boulogne), 5 April 1917; 'Kenny ... was killed at Fromelles on July 19th before we got over the top. There were two Lewis guns in the same bay - about 10 yds long - Kenny was in the other team - not in mine. A shell burst in his team and killed four of whom Kenny was one, and wounded one.'
