War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Alexandria for England, 6 March 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 30 September 1916; taken on strength, 59th Bn, in the field, 15 October 1916. Wounded in action, 30 November 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh), and admitted to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 1 December 1916; transferred to Ambulance Train No 23, 2 December 1916, and admitted to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 3 December 1916; transferred to England, 5 December 1916, and admitted to Birmingham War Hospital, 6 December 1916; discharged on furlough, 10 April 1917, to report to No 2 command Depot, Weymouth, 25 April 1917. Marched out to Overseas Training Depot, Perham Downs, 7 July 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 12 July 1917; discharged to duty, 6 August 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 26 days. Proceeded overseas to France, 7 September 1917. Admitted to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 16 September 1917 (urticaria, non-venereal); rejoined 59th Bn, 29 September 1917.
