Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack by the 2nd American Corps at St Souplet, south of Le Cateau, on 17th October 1918. The Battery was in action firing a barrage in support of the advancing Infantry. This N.C.O., although suffering severely from the effect of gas, remained on the positions and rendered valuable assistance to the guns. When one of the Numbers One was wounded he took charge of the Detachment and kept the gun in action. He rendered valuable work throughout the day until finally was evacuated suffering from gas.' Wounded in action (gas), 17 October 1918; admitted to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; to 2nd General Hospital, Le Havre, 18 October 1918.
