Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. Though wounded immediately after crossing the parapet, he led his men on with great coolness. After advancing as far as possible he ordered his men to dig themselves in and sent back a message for reinforcements. After having his wounds dressed he refused to go to hospital, but continued rendering valuable assistance to his battalion.'
