Military Medal "For great gallantry and devotion to duty during the recent operations to the East of YPRES on October 11th 1917. This man was stretcher-bearing from a forward Regimental Aid Post in the neighbourhood of ZONNEBEKE over a track constantly subjected to fire of heavy artillery and gas shells. On the date mentioned above he was severely concussed by the explosion of a shell but after a short rest he insisted on carrying on. Shortly afterwards he was again blown over by a shell explosion but continued with the evacuation of wounded until relieved. He set a very fine example to his fellow bearers during the period October 11th to 20th 1917. "
