'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During strenuous active operations this warrant officer showed fine devotion to duty, great ability, and conspicuous gallantry when organizing the works of his platoon under exceptionally heavy enemy artillery fire. On one occasion, when his platoon was without an officer, he took command and successfully carried out all works entrusted to him.'
