Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 2nd September, 1918, during the attack by the 11th A.I. Brigade North of ALLAINES he displayed great initiative and skill in getting his guns forward. Although coming under direct machine gun and artillery fire, he got his guns into position under great difficulty and trying circumstances giving the advancing infantry mutual support. At a critical period his untiring efforts and skill greatly assisted the success of the operations in that sector. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 3rd September, during the attack by the 11th A.I. Brigade near HAUT ALLAINES this Non Commissioned Officer engaged enemy machine gun nests that were holding up the attacking infantry. He and his team came under direct machine gun fire, but notwithstanding this he engaged the enemy machine guns, knocking them out and enabling the infantry to get forward.'
