Marched in to 60th Battalion 8 July 1916

Wounded in Action in France 24 November 1916, he was sent to England and admitted to hospital suffering from a compound fracture to his right elbow, caused by a bullet.

Pte. Battley returned to Australia, leaving the theatre of war on 3 August 1917.
