Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near BELLICOURT on 29th September-2nd October 1918. This man acted as runner, and throughout the period mentioned carried messages under heavy shell and machine gun fire with a total disregard for personal safety. Although suffering from the effects of gas he refused to leave his post, thereby largely assisting in the successful evacuation of wounded. His great bravery and untiring devotion to duty was an inspiration to all.'
