Military Cross 'Near Lihons, on 10th August 1918, when his company encountered strong opposition he showed great skill and gallantry in dealing with same. After disposing of a nest of three light guns, he made a reconnaissance under heavy machine gun fire, with the result that by securing the cooperation of his flanks he was enabled to push the line forward some 500 yards. Later in the day he led a patrol through a wood south west of Lihons, and gained much valuable information. His dash and initiative contributed largely to the success of the operation, and he set a fine example to all under him.'
