'During the attack on BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES on 4th October, 1917, Pte. KETTLE did splendid work as Rifle Grenadier. He lent assistance at numerous points where enemy posts were holding out, and on one occasion knocked out an enemy Machine Gun and rushing up, captured the crew (three men) who were trying to bring another gun into position.'
