War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Admitted to 7th Field Ambulance, Gallipoli, 28 September 1915 (rheumatism); rejoined unit, 29 September 1915. Evacuated from Gallipoli, and disembarked at Alexandria from Mudros, 9 January 1916. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 15 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 21 March 1916. Admitted to 23rd General Hospital, France, 9 May 1916 (corneal ulcer); transferred to England, 16 May 1916, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital.
