Transferred to 7th Bn, Mudros, 26 December 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, 6 March 1916, of being absent from parade at 0900, 4 March 1916: awarded 2 days Field Punishment No. 2.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 26 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 31 March 1916.

Wounded in action, France, 22-25 July 1916 (gun shot wound, chest); admitted to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 25 July 1916; transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 27 July 1916; discharged to 6th Convalescent Depot, 1 August 1916; marched in to 1st Division Depot, Etaples, 18 September 1916.

Proceeded to England, 13 February 1917; marched in to No. 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 17 February 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HS A14 'Euripides', 21 July 1917; discharged Melbourne, 24 October 1917.
