'During the period 23/28th October 1917, near ZONNEBEKE, East of YPRES, Private KNUDSEN did splendid work as a stretcher bearer. He carried wounded continuously between the front line and the Reg. Aid Post which necessitated passing through the heaviest barrage lines. On two occasions when the men of his squad were all knocked out he carried on and single handed brought in the wounded man and then returned through the barrage and brought in the other wounded stretcher bearers.'
