Sentence commuted to 2 years' imprisonment with hard labour, 6 July 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Sardinia', 19 October 1918; discharged (medically unfit (accidental bullet wound to eye, 5 July 1918), Adelaide, 24 March 1919.
